about thom

Thomas McCarter is a performer, scholar, and creator in Detroit’s live art community. He is currently finishing his Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in Dance from Wayne State University. In his time there, he has performed in the works of such artists as Biba Bell, Stefanie Batten Bland, Nick Cave, Faye Driscoll, Joori Jung, Nicholas Leichter, and Trey McIntyre. Outside of dance, he has worked with local theater organizations including The Underground Theater and Young Fenix Fellowship in both acting and administrative roles. By night, Thomas is known as Kellie Killjoy, an up-and-coming drag personality in the night life scene of Midtown Detroit. In his own work, Thomas likes to contort task-based, pedestrian action with a lens of high-fashion irony. He regularly seeks ways to expose the glamour and oddity of everyday images and experiences. In his free time, Thomas enjoys riding bikes, going to the movies, and taking late-night strolls in six-inch stilettos.
